Dear members and trainees plus those interested,

In the spring of 2025 we are again organizing an interesting five-day trip to France. We have chosen Reims & la région Champagne Ardenne as our destination. The short program is attached.

The trip is fully booked.
If you are still interested in joining the trip, please send an e-mail to Annelies Bodifée, annelies.bodifee@casema.nl
Then we will put your name on the waiting list (in order of entry) and contact you if there are any cancellations.

Wednesday, May 21

Departure at 8:30 a.m. from Overvecht station by our own bus.

Coffee/tea and toilet breaks en route by arrangement with the driver.

We will make a stop in Brussels to visit Villa Empain, an art deco style building that hosts changing exhibitions. A guide will tell us about the history of this villa.

Around 6 p.m., we hope to arrive at our hotel in Reims. We will stay four nights at B & B Hotel Reims Centre Erlon, 28 Boulevard Joffre, 51100 Reims (this was an Ibis hotel until October 1, 2024!)

Dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

Thursday, May 22

After breakfast, accompanied by two guides, we take a walking tour of Reims past the many art deco buildings and visit the chapel Notre-Dame de la Paix with extraordinary frescoes, installed in 1965 by the Japanese/French painter Léonard Foujita, in gratitude for his conversion to Christianity.

In the afternoon, with a guide, we visit the Basilique Saint-Remi, from the 11th century with the tomb of Saint-Rémi, the bishop who baptized Clovis, the first king of France. After this, an opportunity to visit the adjacent Musée Saint-Rémi on your own.

Dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

Friday, May 23

After breakfast, we will depart on our coach accompanied by a guide for a tour of the champagne wine regions and see for ourselves where the world-famous champagne comes from.

At noon we embark for a boat trip on the Marne River and see the champagne region from the water. Lunch on board (included).

At the end of the afternoon we will be back at our hotel.

Dinner at a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

After dinner we take another walk and discover the city “au fil de la nuit”.

Saturday, May 24

In the morning we will go to the champagne cellars of G.H. Mumm where we will receive an explanation of the history of this champagne house followed by a tasting. In the afternoon, with two guides, we visit Notre-Dame Cathedral in Reims from the 13th century. In 1991, the cathedral was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The church is best known for its beautiful stained glass windows, including those by Chagall. Afterwards, opportunity to explore the city further on your own or enjoy a drink on one of the many terraces.

Dinner in a restaurant within walking distance of the hotel.

We did not reserve a whole free afternoon, because it was not technically possible in the program. Not all activities could take place at times we preferred. But around the various activities remains enough time for own interpretation.

Sunday, May 25

We depart at 8:30 a.m. for the return trip. We make a stop in Villers-Cotterêts to visit the Cité Internationale de la langue française. This wonderful museum of all things linguistic is housed in a 16th-century François I castle and was opened by President Macron late last year. Visit on your own for “L’aventure de la langue.” After this we will drive on to Mons in Belgium for our farewell lunch.

We hope to arrive in Utrecht between 8pm or 9pm.
