Toen het bijna voltooid was merkte de kunstschilder Jean-Baptiste \u00c9douard Detaille spottend op; \u201czo\u2019n grandioos spoorwegstation dat eruitziet als een Paleis voor Schone Kunsten, terwijl het Paleis voor Schone Kunsten op een station lijkt! Mijn advies aan de architect Victor Laloux is ze om te wisselen nu het nog kan\u201d.
